Welcome to Summit County Snowshoe Tours, we are a small local snowshoe guiding business based in the heart of Summit County, committed to equity and accessibility to nature. Our team of expert guides are passionate about sharing the beauty and serenity of snowshoeing with adventurers of all skill levels as we tailor each expedition to your needs. We offer both quarter-day (about 2 hours) and half-day (about 4 hours) tours, with difficulty levels ranging from easy to hard. Whether you're looking for a relaxing hike along the river or a more advanced peak summit, our deep knowledge of the local terrain and a commitment to providing personalized experiences will take you where you want to go.

Itinerary

Before Your Trip: You will receive a text or email after booking to go over the tour details.

Day of Your Trip: Meet your guide at the trailhead for a 10-20 minute safety and logistics debrief and 2-4 hour tour. For most trailheads, a 4x4 vehicle/snow tires is recommended.

FAQs

Can I cancel my tour? 

You may cancel your trip 48 hours in advance without a charge; any earlier and there will be a late cancellation fee.

How do I get in contact with the guide?

Should you tip your guide? 

Tips are not expected but welcomed.

What should I bring on the tour?

Appropriate clothing for winter weather: Snow jacket, under clothes, gloves, beanie, sunglasses or goggles, snow pants, warm socks, boots or hiking shoes (waterproof recommended), sunscreen, hand and feet warmers, water bottle or hydro pack, food (lunch or snacks). 

How hard is snowshoeing compared to hiking? 

Snowshoeing is considered to be double the amount of work as hiking and can take up to double the time. Keep in mind your health and athletic ability when booking as your ability to enjoy the hike will depend on your health and fitness. 

How safe is snowshoeing? 

Our guides are trained in wilderness first aid, CPR, Backcountry terrain, and Avalanche safety to navigate unsafe situations. Snowshoeing is considered to be a safe outdoor activity especially with a seasoned guide.

What happens if the weather gets bad during the tour?

The guide will take the party back down to the trail head to either wait out the weather or rescheduling the tour but money back is not guaranteed.

What is the minimum age for snowshoeing tours?

Recommended age is at least 10 years of age however please keep in mind the athletic ability of your child as snowshoeing is a strenuous activity.

How many people can be on a tour? 

6 participants per guide per tour.

How do I get to the trailhead?

At the bottom of the Frisco, Silverthorne, and Breckenridge pages there is a link to a map with all of the trailheads. Your guide will also contact you before the scheduled tour and give you directions to the trailhead. 

Do I need any prior experience before snowshoeing?

No prior experience is needed to snowshoe, your guide will go over basic techniques and logistics of snowshoeing before departure.

What happens in the case of an emergency?

In the case of an emergency all guides will be equipped with a beacon. first aid kit and are trained for emergency  situations.
